In a 1989 interview with Stan Sanvel Rubin and Bill Heyen, Lisel Mueller explained: " Allow me to say what countless additional displaced folks must have explained: I are more at home here [in the United States] than anywhere. " Because Mueller's poems will be written in English, her second language (her first being German), that they reflect an awareness of what words can and are unable to do.
